C'est Charles

about

C'est Charles

The 3rd single off the highly-anticipated Aksak Maboul double album ‘Figures’ (out May 22) shows yet another dimension of the LP, with its mesmerizing downtempo beats, jazz-infused harmonies, infectious keyboard lines, wild guitars and moody vocals.

Just like the album, this track was written and produced by Marc Hollander & Véronique Vincent (respectively founder of Aksak Maboul & Crammed Discs, and former vocalist with The Honeymoon Killers)

Véronique’s enigmatic lyrics —which partly allude to a canonical French poet—may or may not really be about forgery, forests, fables, the financiarisation (of the art market) and other things beginning with other letters… The track ends with demonstration-like slogan chanting by a crowd (solely consisting of the overdubbed voices of Véronique and Audrey Ginestet & Benjamin Glibert from Aquaserge…): “What we want!… Is!… Life made noise!…”

lyrics

FR:

Si sous mes faux airs
Je ne suis pas faussaire
Sauf c’est nécessaire
De mes sphères imaginaires

Mondes en éclaircies
Sombres à la merci
D’une nette autopsie
De sens mes allégories

Ce qu’on veut
C’est
La vie en beau
Rose
Bleu
La vie en

Forêts landes
Fossés
Affabulés
Images
Fixes
La vie en

L’existence la vie
Alors se déplie
Se démultiplie
Dans mes amas mes lavis

On me dit fais pas ci
T’es nulle part ici
Tu voles t’appropries
Tu indiffères l’industrie

Si sous mes faux airs
Je ne suis pas faussaire
De mes mille mondes imaginaires
Terres fécondes de pollens incendiaires
Terre de ma muse si fière
Qui erre qui erre

Pour remplir
Faire exploser
L’imparfait
Exposons
Le vide à saturation

Ce qu’on veut
C’est
La vie en beau
Rose
Bleu
La vie en

Forêts landes
Fossés
Champ de fabales
Images
Fixes
Fabulées

Ce qu’on veut
C’est
La vie en bruit
Rose
Bleu
La vie en

Repentirs
Taches bris
La vie en beau
Slogans
Brutes
Affabulées

Ce qu’on veut
C’est
La vie en beau
Fous
Dieux
En substance

Ce qu’on veut
C’est Charles
La vie en beau
Rose rouge
Bleu
La vie en

(Full translated lyrics):

Is Charles

Though I may resemble
A forger wont to dissemble
I'm not, except when near
My imaginary spheres

Worlds in bright spells
Dark at the mercy
Of a clear autopsy
Of meaning, my allegories

What we want
Is
Life made beautiful
Pink
Blue
Life made

Forests, moors
Divides
Divined
Still
Images
Life made

Existence, life
Then unfolds
Multiplies
In my clusters, my washes

I’m told don’t go there
You are nowhere here
You steal, you usurp anew
The industry cares not for you

Although I may resemble
One wont to dissemble
From my thousand imaginary worlds
Fertile lands of incendiary spore
Land of my proud muse of yore
Who roams evermore

To fill up
Blow it up
The imperfect
Let’s expose
The void to saturation

What we want
Is
Life made beautiful
Pink
Blue
Life made

Forests, moors
Divides
Field of fabales
Images
Still
Fantasized

What we want
Is
Life made noise
Pink
Blue
Life made

Remorse
Stains, breakage
Life made beautiful
Slogans
Brutes
Fabled

What we want
Is
Life made beautiful
Madmen
Gods
In essence

What we want
Is Charles
Life made beautiful
Pink, red
Blue
Life made
